Talitha Cumi! Daughter Arise! formally began in 2007 under the name African American Girls Self Discovery Group. Since that time the creators, Juliet Mitchell and Tamara Mattison, have adopted the name Talitha Cumi! Daughter Arise! leading girls toward academic success, positive behavior, healthy relationships and good citizenship.
We believe that Talitha Cumi! Daughter Arise! more appropriately describes our vision for this program. Our vision is for all adolescent females to Arise! and be all that they can be, all that they choose to be, and to reach their fullest potential, leading girls toward academic success, positive behavior, healthy relationships and good citizenship.
Talitha Cumi! offers specific sessions that when taught together help participants to build a positive sense of “self.” The result is a reduction in high-risk behaviors such as early sexual activity, teen pregnancy, gang involvement, violent behaviors and poor academic performance.
Talitha Cumi! Daughter Arise! starts with a 12-session series of workshops supporting the primary focus of the program, helping females, ages 8-18, build emotional intelligence and develop a greater, more positive sense of self:

Therefore, we seek to provide a safe space using Restorative Circles to allow adolescent females to talk about life, hardships, relationships, social justice, beauty images, healing, and traumatic experiences.
